D10.5 - Specification of the OPAALS Open Knowledge Space model
Tentative new title (to be entered in 1st contract amendment): "Processes and Definitions for the Development of the Open Knowledge Space"
This is the collaborative workspace for the deliverable D10.5. There are three purposes to this specific workspace:
- to facilitate the collaboration around and the creation of deliverable 10.5
- to capture the overall initial requirements for the OKS (with the view to deriving from these the OKS Model)
- to refect on the collaborative process, make recommendations to enhance our structures, processes and tools
Draft outline
- Modelling the Ontology
- 12 Principles of Online Communities
- Usage Models
Decision making process
This area can be used to capture the decision making proceess involved in the development of this deliverable.
- The deliverable is tentatively renamed Processes and Definitions for the Development of the Open Knowledge Space.
- The draft outline will be finalised by 17 Nov. This is not meant to be a restrictive deadline but rather one that encourages us to move on to creating the deliverable with a view to the discussion paper (which will be the precursor to Del 10.5) being finalised by end of Dec.
We are discussing to develop a questionnaire as a joint project with the task 6.1 team.
Comments and suggestions
Please add your comments and suggestions in this area as well your name and the date.
Anne Nov 6th 2006:
- It was decided that this deliverable will be submitted in month 8 as opposed to 6.
- It was also decided that we would write a draft paper of this deliverable by end of Dec 2006.
- I would suggest renaming this deliverable ‘Bootstrapping the definition of the OKS model’ or ‘Definition of/Defining the OKS model’ or ‘Bootstrapping the OKS’. Rationale being that the term 'specification' of the OKS at this juncture of the project, may be restrictive.
I would appreciate comments feedback on this.
Anne Nov 7th 2006:
The following are my original ideas on the content of Del 10.5, as exchanged with Frauke at our meeting in Tampere.
- Requirements gathering – capturing the needs of the Opaals consortium community initially as a preliminary means of identifying the needs of the future SME community.
- Recommendations for OKS models - based on req gathered and research theory on OKS and Com Building bkms in OSS/online communities
- Usage models – captured during req gathering phase
- Usage models perhaps mapped to potential tools – ie not necessarily the brand names thereof but something high level along the lines of del creation and review can be enabled via wiki, outputs visualized via visualization tools, discussion via integrated blog. End product stored in doc repository ie Web Dav etc.
This deliverable can enable us to:
- pilot the use of wikis for our collaborative process. The gaps that the wiki does not facilitate should help us identify what other tools we require.
- trouble shoot and make recommendations for the definition of the OKS for how it could facilitate the greater consortium initially and later SMEs
- and tools required around it
- including visualisation tools etc.
- make recommendations for meta data, folksonomy
We would need to take into account the ANT (actor network theory), feedback loops etc. And keep in mind/assess our progress and strategies against the principles of online community building.
